Experiential Learning Week 2025

November 1 – 9, 2025

Experiential Learning Week (ELW) provides students in Grades 7-12 the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom. By participating in a unique learning experience of choice, students will enhance 21st century learning competencies while developing independence and personal growth.

DSC is pleased to offer students a wide variety of international and Hong Kong experiences. Many options include community service, cultural exploration, or action adventure.

Supervision:
All Experiential Learning Programs are supervised by DSC International School staff with a staff to student ratio of at least 1:15. Many programs have additional supervisors from external organizations with expertise in a wide range of areas.

All families must register and pay to secure the spot.

International Programs

Grade 10 – 12 | 7 day program

Overview
Let all that you have heard about Italy’s famous history come alive as you walk the streets once walked by famous emperors, visit the buildings and sculptures they created, and immerse yourself in their inspiring cities.

Grade 10 – 12 | 6 day program

Overview

The coastal ecosystems surrounding Perth encompass sand dunes, heathlands, and wetlands, which supports a diverse range of plants and animals. Human impact on these areas has led to the need for local organizations to support preservation and rehabilitation efforts.

Grade 10 – 12 | 7 day program

Overview

Experience the hidden wonders of Bali while working with a local organization that supports the most vulnerable, and often forgotten people in the local community. Volunteer at a Children’s Learning Center to support the daily lives of those less fortunate.

Grade 10 – 12 | 7 day program

Overview

A 7-day trip including thought provoking service and fascinating community insight, as well as the chance to explore ancient temples and learn new skills.

Grade 7 – 9 | 7 day program

Overview
A 7-day trip to experience the hidden wonders of Borneo, connecting with local tribal communities in a meaningful way. Explore one of the oldest rainforests on Earth and raise awareness about deforestation contributing to the extinction of the Bornean Orangutan.

Grade 7 – 9 | 5 day program

Overview
A 5-day trip to the beautiful Guangxi region. Experience action adventure and cultural traditions amongst the inspiring landscape.

Grade 7 – 9 | 5 day program

Overview
A 5-day trip to Sanjiang, a living relic of the Dong culture. This program is developed to focus on art, architecture, community, and folk culture.

Action Activity Camp

One of DSC’s most popular ELW programs is back again with some of our favorite activities mixed with new adventures. Challenge your skills, develop confidence, teamwork, and perseverance

Art Attack with Gail Deayton

Grade 10 – 12

Learn from professional artist, Gail Deayton, who specializes in printmaking and sculpture. Experiment with new media, build your portfolio, and contribute to the community through art.

Gail Deayton has worked as an artist in Hong Kong for over 20 years. A graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University’s fine art program, Gail has exhibited her work in London and Hong Kong and has commissioned sculptures on display at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental.

Students can earn up to 6 hours of community service

Build Your Own Volunteering Initiative

Grade 9 – 12

Plan your own community service week and make a difference in the lives of others. Hong Kong has numerous charitable organizations and NGOs who need your support to help those in need.

Culinary Camp – 6 Senses

Grade 10 – 12

East Meets West – Learn the basic skills and techniques of varies countries’ savoury dishes and confections. Establish essential life skills and develop a love of healthy cooking. Even if you participated in this camp previously, we’ve develop a whole new menu, so you can continue your journey in the culinary arts with the experienced chefs at 6 Senses.

Culinary Camp – Pots n Pans

Grade 7 – 9

Founded in 2013, Pots n Pans was started with the belief that everyone and anyone can learn to cook. Join our chefs to learn Western and Eastern traditions. A simply delicious lifelong skill.

Eligibility: Grade 7 – 9

DSC’s First Hackathon: Hack the Future

Grade 7 – 12

A hackathon is a space that helps give makers everything they need to start building–mentors, collaborators, inspiration, and a goal to work towards. Hackers will leave a hackathon with a project of their own, ready and excited to keep building once they get home.

Electronic Music Making Bootcamp

Grade 7 – 12

Learn the basics of electronic music production, including understanding sound design, rhythm, melody, and arrangement. By the end of the bootcamp, students will have created their own electronic music composition.


Location: Sol Passion Music Studio, Quarry Bay

Emergency Rescue Program

Grade 7 – 12

Earn practical first aid certification through an internationally accredited program, Emergency First Response. Complete independent work, skills workshops, and real-life scenario training.

This program is facilitated by Sai Kung First Aid and accredited by Emergency First Response (EFR). EFR has 48 years of experience in the development and delivery of instructional courses, training materials, and educational curricula, which is taught in over 175 countries.

Entrepreneurial Adventure: Code and Craft Your Own Success Story

Grader 10 – 12

Join a Tech Start-Up Program and prioritize business fundamentals and hands-on learning in coding. Throughout the 5-day camp, students will engage in practical coding exercises directly related to their start-up ideas. Apply your coding skills to develop digital prototypes, business marketing tools, and Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) showcasing innovative solutions.

HPAIR Leadership Program

Grade 7 – 12

Led by Harvard College Project for Asian & International Relations, hosted by DSC

In collaboration with the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) and Learn With Leaders, DSC is honored to host the HPAIR Leadership Conference, a unique and intensive 5-day program on leadership and creating future changemakers led by Harvard undergraduate students.
